What is the Brunch Book Club?

Hi Everybody, (Lisa, Alison, Leona, Karen, Alice, Annie, Nicole, Avril & Gemma)

Finally it is that time - the launch of the “Brunch Book Club”! The first one is to be this Sunday, 5th March at 11am. As yet, I haven’t figured out where, or what, or who, but I will let you know in due course. To kick it all off can everybody please bring a list of their top 5 favourite books of all time (regardless of genre). Then each month we can have a new theme (eg. Thriller) where we each suggest one book on that theme, which will in turn be added to the list. So if there are 10 of us, that means there will be 50 books on the list to choose from at the outset, plus an extra 10 books will be added to the list each month.

The concept behind the Brunch Book Club is a) it is nice to meet up with friends for brunch and b) many of the good books I have read have been recommended to me by a friend.

The club will be run the first Sunday of every month. If you can’t make it that day you should still submit your suggested book via email. The idea is that everyone will get a chance to choose the brunch location and chair the meeting.

So let me know if you are interested and I will email you further details!

Cheers, Linda

.........

Hello BBC crew,

As the Brunch Book Club is as much about the brunch as it is about the books I think that we should take this monthly opportunity to explore some of London's great brunch restaurants & cafes. I have already come across quite a few dotted about the place (usually in places like Notting Hill & Islington). For the first one, I am suggesting a London institution: Smiths of Smithfield.

So can everybody - including those who can't make it this week - please email me a list of your "Top 5 Favourite Books of All Time" along with one sentence (or more if you are feeling verbose) as to why. Also please email me the name of one book that you have always wanted to read, but just haven't gotten around to it. I will then pass all of our lists around at brunch.

Just two rules for this club (Sorry, but you may thank me!):
a) If you can't make it one month, always tell the person organising it and still submit your book suggestion/suggestions in line with what they ask for.
b) This isn't a book swap club. If you would like to read one of the suggested books, then please go out and buy it. It saves your favourite book getting dog-eared from lending it out all the time, simply because you happened to recommend it to the club.

See you on Sunday!

Cheers, Linda
